Welcome to the Sunshine Club

June 25, 2009

I was hanging out with a couple of my ladies last night and one of them mentioned this email she got from a supervisor. We laughed so hard we almost peed and she offered to forward it to us. I asked if I could post it, and she said, “Absolutely.” Names have been omitted to protect the oblivious. (And yes, the clip art was at the top of the email.)

Team,

The … team has always been one of the best places to work at [company name]. Our team has had the good fortune to enjoy special treat days many times throughout the year based on the hard work and creativity of many of our associates. I truly appreciate the positive atmosphere these events inspire. In an effort to encourage and expand on future events this this, we’ve developed the “SUNSHINE CLUB,” which will be funded by contributions from the Senior Staff. The main mission of the Sunshine Club is simple: Bring a little sunshine into an otherwise routine workweek.

There’s more, but you get the idea. I’ve only seen a couple episodes of The Office, but this sounds like something what’s-his-name would do. Yes? Office fans?

Am I being hyper-cyncial or is this really weird? Does anyone work in one of these weird corporate environments? Share freaky, should-have-been-an-episode stories!

oh its all real. working in an office is just like “the office” with the sunshine committee, “grazing days” (which is what our boss called the special days that we were allowed to have treats), hawaiian shirt day (but we had a lot of restrictions as to what type of shirts we were allowed to wear). the office in “Office Space” is exactly where I used to work… exactly.

Yikes. I’ve worked in a couple offices, but never had that. Maybe it’s ’cause they were small and there was no HR department. Weirdness.
