Music helps

June 6, 2009

In case you didn’t notice yesterday, I added a page. (Upper, right hand corner)

I thought about doing this as I was creating lead sheets for music from a couple IHOP-KC worship leaders. I figured if I couldn’t find ’em online, then you probably can’t either. Those aren’t up yet, but I’m getting there.

In the meantime, the other thing that I wanted to do with that page is put up some music theory cheat sheets. I used to really detest music theory, but every piano teacher I had insisted on it. Now that I haven’t cracked an Urtext in years, but have gone through more lead sheets than I can count, the music theory is really coming in handy.

And I realize that a lot of worship leaders – or even worship team members – are self-taught at least in part, and don’t know a lot of that theory stuff that can make understanding, organizing, and writing music so much easier. I’m helping.

Feel free to post questions in the Comments section of that Music page (or this post). If they require short answers, I’ll post answers. If it’s a bigger topic, that’ll be my next cheat sheet. If I have no idea, I’ll tell you I have no idea.

Spread the word. Rock your congregation. Make a joyful noise that’s joyful for the rest of us too.
