A picture is worth a thousand words

May 19, 2009

If it’s true that a picture is worth a thousand words, here are six thousand words about how we’ve lost touch with what it really means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.

The first three results from a Google Image search for “revolutionary.”

And the first three results from a Google Image search for “Christian.”

No, it’s not a real scientific study, but it’s good fun for a Tuesday morning. More fun if you’re a revolutionary, it seems, but hey – two of those little “Christian” icons have animated sparkles in their original form.

Acts 17:5-7,

But the Jews who were not persuaded, becoming envious, took some of the evil men from the marketplace, and gathering a mob, set all the city in an uproar and attacked the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people. 6 But when they did not find them, they dragged Jason and some brethren to the rulers of the city, crying out, “These who have turned the world upside down have come here too. 7 Jason has harbored them, and these are all acting contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying there is another king—Jesus.”

Let’s re-sign up for this and do it right. The choice is still – and always will be – yours, but it’s not a choice you can avoid. Revolutionary or “Christian”?
